I've missed working on Sunday afternoons sooo much (not!). Helping kids/parents with school projects when only the parent is talking is quite the experience

Fundraising is going well im at $265, 8 percent, not bad considering I'm only really starting to get my fundraising letters out. If you have any questions about donating please ask!

The actual walking part is going well too. I still haven't met many walkers. We did 5 miles yesterday. I finished in about 1 hour 20 minutes which is a 16 min minute which is just under a 7 hour marathon pace. Which is not very fast. I bought a belt where you can hang your water bottles so I won't have to carry them. As a result my form should be better and in theory I should get faster. I had a delightful woman from New Zealand help out with purchasing the belt and socks yesterday.

I went to a new church this morning. New to me anyways. It was a Episcopalian church. I'm not happy at the church I'm at now and haven't been for a long time. I was going to post a long list of grievances. But I don't think God wants me to do that. The church is actually two parishes. The one that is closest to me has its' service at the unholy hour of 8:30am. I went to the one that is a bit farther away that has a 10:30 service. :) There were about 65-70 people there. I wasn't the youngest single person there I don't think and to my delight there were a few African-Americans in the pews. I'm not that familiar with the liturgy but I don't think I completely embarrassed myself. I must learn to cross myself properly before I go again. I think I like the priest. He has a partner. *sound of people dropping from my friends list*

the episcopal liturgy is a thing of beauty, and very flexible. some people cross themselves, others don't, and no one minds anyone else's way. some people stand, some kneel, and some (with bad knees and backs, like me), just sit. it's all good.

my favorite episcopal priest is a lesbian with a life-partner. she's not here any more, and i still miss her. she was the best homilist i ever heard from that pulpit.

whether you go again or not, i'm happy to think you liked today's service. :)

More fool they. Them. Thing. Geez.

(This is where transatlantic WTF comes into play. I have a partner, but over here, that means "person you shacked up with" or some such. Now, I'm delighted to use the term, 'cause, even if we were married, I don't think it's anyone's business where on the sex/gender spectrum my person falls. And that's pretty much what it meant before I left North America. We didn't realize it was really anything more than that these days until last year, when we took separate planes to the same convention and he told Immigration he was meeting his partner in Atlanta. Immigration asked when he (partner-he) was turning up, and David's all like, "well, er, she...")

I am a life-long Episcopalian. You have to give it some time; the liturgy does not reach out and grab you (or even try to) on first exposure. I am happy in my church--very devoted and giving people, very loving and respectful. I am in a study group that is reading several of Marcus Borg's books, and he is coming to our church in November. I hope you find what you are seeking, whether in our church or elsewhere.
