Just got back from seeing The Departed. If it doesn't win Best Picture I'll be most annoyed.

It's far better than Babel which we saw last weekend.

Of course I should see Letters From Iwo Jima and The Queen before I get too high on my horse and I loved Little Miss Sunshine but since Children of Men didn't get nominated I have a serious axe to grind with the Academy.

Loved The Departed much more than Babel. Tom and I are banking on The Departed winning Best Director and Babel winning Best Picture. Since Best Picture technically goes to the producer of the film, and Babel was a seriously tough film to produce, with all those languages and locations.

I don't think we're ever really going to see Letters from Iwo Jima. We did love The Queen, but a lot of people we recommended it to didn't. (They said it was too slow. But clearly they don't watch slow movies.)

I do have to say, though, I was more happy with the nominations this year than last year. Any of the Best Picture nominees deserve it more than Crash did.

wow.
I don't remember one movie in which I cried and also laughed at loud so many times.

and yes, Departed was definitely way better than Babel...
