A letter to the folks in my subdivision

If you INSIST of setting off the really loud (think subdivision-shattering BOOM!) firecrackers, please wait until it's dark so I can at least see them.

I think the ones that make the most noise and don't produce any pretty lights are the dumbest things ever. I mean, if you're going to burn your money, at least get more than noise out of it or, as you've suggested, wait until dark so that you can see them. People smell.

I feel like running over to everyone setting them off and telling them the tale of the man in Lombard who blew a whole through his head a couple of years ago because, OH YEAH, fireworks are ILLEGAL in Illinois. DUH! In B'dale, it isn't a problem. We've had a hefty police presence all over the place, which has been nice. But here at mom and dad's, they live in an unincorporated area, and people know the county has better things to do and even if they didn't, the closest cop could very well be, literally, over the river and through the woods.

Here, it hasn't been getting dark until 10 PM.

So, for people who go to bed early, that keeps us up until their parents decide that they need to go to bed.
