My 40 GB hard drive on my desktop is nearly full. So I'm starting to consider adding more space for all that music I can't help but download. External hard drives seem to be the way to go. Anyone have one they've had good experiences with?

I have a Seagate that I bought around New Year's. The model number is: ST3160026A-RK. I've used it to stream samples for my music, and it works just fine. (It's USB 2.0, if that helps.)

I had the exact same situation: my 40GB drive not ultimately compatible with my plan to put all my music into my computer. I have a LaCie 160GB attached to my iMac now and that has been an absolutely pleasant experience. No problems whatsoever.
