When I lived in Europe in the 80's I learned that almost everyone hated us, most for stupid reasons, or because they'd been misinformed. A South African woman once told me that institutional racism in the USA was worse than apartheid. People have hated us for a very long time. This is just one little thing. My relatives in Mexico think we're fascists because we have more money than they do and their press says so. Etc.
Having said that, yes, we are horrible and all Americans should hate themselves.
That's partly because we work harder and don't tolerate so much corruption. My Mexican students, mostly "guests," leave school for two months for Christmas. Then I'm supposed to meet their "special needs" and all that. I really don't mind their choices as long as I'm not expected to compensate for them with miraculous high test scores and economic success.
my stomach lurches not at the graphicness or grotesquenss (sp?) of the photos but the simple fact that humans do that to each other...that is what causes my nausea
