I finally sorted out the pile of mail on my dining room table and I found a letter from Chris and Jackie, a couple that served as campus ministers to me during my freshman year at college. HUGE influences on me spiritually. I get letters from them every so often as they were missionaries in Africa for awhile and plan to go back at some point. (Missionaries send "support letters" to those who financially support them). This letter was postmarked a month ago.

The first line of the letter: "Yes it's true...I have cancer" (Jackie) Jackie has ovarian cancer. She's probably in her late 30's/early 40's. They have 4 kids.

I'm not really impressed with God at the moment.

But their letter is filled with so much hope and faith.

I wish I had that type of faith.

i'm sorry about the news from your friends. be a friend back to them, as i'm sure you will.
the rain falls on the just and the unjust as we are unique creations, cherished and uniquely loved. may you (i think you will) continue to listen to the thread of truth forever attached to your soul. i know that there are times when "we" are not impressed by HIM, but HE is always impressed by us. HE doesn't make junk and HE is always there. i know there are times of silence (to our ears) but i do know HE is always speaking...often in peculiar ways.
peace be with you, always...

that's well put. my mentor keith had cancer twice, died at 34, and saw his long desired missionary career end abruptly. he never complained about anything.

i hope everything goes well.

As I said, I wish I had that type of faith.

SHE is always there too, just so you know.

(You know I had to chime in with that one.)

I'm glad you're sharing your struggles though. I admire that in you.
