there are some excellent writers and thinkers in the evangelical camp, but i never found evangelicalism itself to be welcoming. there's a harshness about it that put me off. (btw, have you ever found time to read that book i sent you? i've wondered if it was good, after all.)

I love the icon - it makes me think of that list of incorrect statments made by Bush which includes one about leaving Hummus out. hehe

Did you just say "truely?"

I'm looking for a dictionary. I think it had a blue cover. ;)

Can I leave the comment here anyway?

I feel kinda bad. Maybe I shouldn't. It's just that librarians are supposed to be perfect, aren't they?

They're not?

I'm helping out in the school library because I thought that perfection would rub off on me.

That icon was so close to getting my favorite userpic of the week, but alas, the position was already filled the other day with the Matrix-Origami pic.

Course, five minutes ago, I also discovered this gem...

"evangelicals"

It's a really ambiguous and problematic label, I'm finding, partly because nobody ever knows what anyone else means by the term. And of course there are those who will always give the whole range and variety of evangelicals a bad name. I basically go with a loose definition of an evangelical as a Christian who's committed to the authority of scripture (which can mean a bunch of things) and emphasizes a personal relationship with Christ. (YDS' evangelical group includes "a concern for creedal orthodoxy" in its definition, which I like.) I still have moments when I want to distance myself from the label, but for better or worse, I still find it more congenial than most categorizations out there, as long as I'm upfront about what it means to me.
