May. 25th, 2004 10:02 pmi'm thinking about a last minute trip this weekend. because of a wedding I couldn't leave until Saturday late afternoon/early evening and I would have to be back in Chicago on Monday night.
Cheap is good.

There is always the Indy 500

Or come and visit our church on Sunday, but that would be quite a drive.
Let's talk rail trail
Date: 2004-05-26 01:04 pm (UTC)You're going to drive to the Illinois Prairie Path, which is described at http://www.traillink.com/TL_Active_Pages/TrailSearch/default.asp?Action=DisplayDetails&ID=379&Trail=Illinois+Prairie+Path&SearchQueryString=Action%3DStateSearch%26Keyword%3D%26State%3DIL+%2D%2D+Chicago+Area%26Activity%3D%26UseOther%3D%26AS%5FState%3D%26AS%5FCounties%3D%26AS%5FActivities%3D%26AS%5FSurfaces%3D%26AS%5FLength%3D.
You'll pick it up at Maywood and ride it to Wheaton. It's 30 miles round trip from 1st Avenue in Maywood to Volunteer Park in Wheaton, which sounds like a lot, but on a bike, even at a leisurely pace, you'll make about 10 to 15 miles an hour. The website with maps for the trail itself is at http://www.ipp.org/about.html.
I'm assuming that Saturday night you'll stay at an affordable best western-y type thing, and that a pizza and a local coffeehouse for music might work out well for ways to spend Saturday evening.
So I vote for a bike ride near home, but really quite exotic in terms of one's day to day life.
On Sunday, you can walk the Wheaton College campus in the morning,
attending a church service if you so desire. In the afternoon, you're going to Cantigny Park, where you'll tour the museums and
public gardens, and watch a concert of Irish music at 3 p.m.
More information on that can be found at http://cantignypark.com/index.htm.
On Monday morning, you can take a leisurely bike ride back to Mayfield, and then rest up for your coming week.
