[personal profile] bona has gotten me into My Name Is Earl. I love the show because it's funny and great theology. I can't think of any other mainstream TV show whose genesis is in redressing the wrongs you've inflicted on others. And tonight's rerun emphasized going the extra mile and helping those who need your help even when they don't seem grateful for it.

However, my favorite part of tonight's episode was the scene where Earl goes into a bookstore for the second time in his life.

Bookseller: We have books on tape
Earl: Are those sticky then?

Alas, the scene doesn't appear to be on YouTube but my LJ bookselling and librarian friends (and those that love them) should watch the episode and lookout for that scene.

I love My Name Is Earl. I have one problem though- that's not Karma. I am pretty sure the writters and etc. know this, but most people don't. Karma doesn't kick in until your next life. Earl's action are more like "the power of three" that is common in naturalistic religions. What you do in life comes back in three fold- do good get 3xs as much good back and the same with bad. Even that's a very simplistic understanding of that power. Whatever- no matter what Earl calls it, I can't stop watching.
