Funny, I remember a certain someone making similar arguments when *she* was rooting for the White Sox recently ;-)
I find it interesting how many of my Cub fan friends are rooting for the White Sox. I wouldn't be caught dead rooting for the Mets, unless they played the Red Sox (I think that happened once).
I don't buy this "it's good for the city" argument. If our sports habits and interests were based on municipal benefits, Cubs fans who couldn't go to Wrigley games would go to Sox games to sell out The Cell and pump money into a poorer side of the city.
To me, there's something special about living and dying with one team, and rooting against their rivals. If the Sox face the Cards, by all means Cub Nation should root for the Sox. But otherwise, why play the "we'll root for you if you'll root for us" game?
