The British national anthem has the best second verse ever.

Oh come on now. Surely the 2nd verse of "When I Survey" is far better no?

See from His head, His hands, His feet,
Sorrow and love flow mingled down!
Did e’er such love and sorrow meet,
Or thorns compose so rich a crown?

*pout* I meant among national anthems, not among ALL second verses.

(I have to admit, that is a pretty awesome second verse right there. Its awesomeness is of a very different kind from that of "God Save the Queen"'s second verse; I hesitate to compare them.

In case any of your readers haven't heard it, I'll reproduce that verse here,

Oh Lord our God, arise
Scatter her enemies
And make them fall
Confound their politics
Frustrate their knavish tricks
On thee our hopes we fix
God save us all

Yes, it rhymes "arise" with "enemies". And the third through fifth lines speak for themselves.)
