I'm in the process of switching churces. I used to attend Willow Creek and am now attending Life on the Vine.
I was quite the happy camper at church today because we sang three (!) traditional hymns, Jesus, Savior Pilot Thee, Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing and one of my alltime favorites Be Thou My Vision. Not that I would want all-traditional hymns all the time but these made me little heart glad. We also sang a "contemporary" worship song "Lord You Have My Heart" which is a pretty good song but no "Be Thou My Vision".
The sermon on Ezekiel 20 was preached by an African-American professor from a local seminary. I love African-American preaching. Lots of moving around, lots of "amens!".... Good stuff.
Strangely enough I ran into a couple of Willow folks there. I also ran into one of my Willow friends at Barnes and Noble Friday night. I can run but I can't hide I guess.

Date: 2005-02-27 05:48 pm (UTC)Is Life another Mega-Church?
I, myself, used to attend a mega-church here in Dallas - Fellowshipchurch.com (no, really that's the church's real name, really, legally, officially).
Lord, You Have My Heart is one of my favorite Worship songs... probably in my top 25 of all time... that'd make for an interesting post....

Date: 2005-03-01 07:47 am (UTC)speaking of traditional hymns, pedro the lion does a version of be thou my vision that i really like, and sufjan stevens does a version of come thou fount of every blessing that i LOVE...funny you guys sang a delirious song...would you believe they were the first rock concert i ever went to? i was really into them for a while back when i was attending the vineyard...that was a LONG time ago...i'll admit that i've sung a song or two of theirs to cadence while trying to get her to sleep...
glad you like LoV...say hi to tim & leigh ann & the boys for me...
