this will bring a reaction of one sort from the left
and from the survivalist right ...
but my guess is that it is some screw up by an overzealous
local official who possibly is a member of Fr Regas' church
or was simply incited by some members ...
what we are unlikely to see is the 'rest of the story' when
the guy is reprimanded or dismissed.

and of course as noted it is as common for conservative ministers
to tell people what they think...

I actually knew fr Regas when he was in new york and I was a
college student, at that time he was religious and not as
obssessed with politics as he seems to have become over the
years...

is that it will be some local official of the IRS
who will be reprimanded or out of work and
we will never hear of it...knew Fr Regas many
years ago,as to that, he used to be a religious man.

Annie , you might be interested in this ...
I remember George Regas as Episcopal priest in
Nyack when I was a college student, and I visited
his church some times... talked with him. He was
of Greek background from Tennessee, nice man, went
on to California...I am rummaging through memory but
I think it is in later years that he became politically
driven...He was a religious man, perhaps still is
in some way. at one point was up for election as
bishop in California and fell short I remmeber
reading. Anyway I liked him when he was a young
man and I much younger of course...now he must be not
young at all since I am not ...
life moves on...dont know what part of tennessee he was
from or if family known in Memphis.

but it could be a different branch at least
of family. I think his parents also had become
Episcopal as many Greeks follow or followed the
pattern of "the kingdom of God in america"
by niebuhr of moving upscale in churches as
they became affluent.

This is a non-partisan problem. I don't like when my (politically) ignorant pastor even hints at political conviction. I figure that if he teaches me the Kingdom of God I will come up with some idea of how to vote....which I am going to do in a few minutes! Must vote against Arnold.

The Knoxville-Kingsport area is familiar
as an aunt lived in Knoxville and a cousin
practices medicine there. Our LJ Jackie
probably knows the name as she's an
Episcopalian living in that area. Also,
a friend who works at the Episcopal Diocese
here knows the name well.

A dear friend of mine had R. Niehbur as a
prof. in divinity school. Upward mobility,
huh? So, how many generations d'ya' think
it'll be before my folks go Anglican?

well Im not sure that the richard neibuhr
thesis still works quite in that way, but
you know is was that the Holiness churches
got a little money selling corn in jars
and became babtist(uh Im tarting it up a bit)
and on up to Methodist Presbyterian and Episcopal
with in some measure the Catholic being as it
would wish to be outside of that structure

not sure it still works. is Episcopal still
the high class? seems like it is declining
and declining in members but may be somewhat
but also not sure the process is working...

my descendants will not exist so thats the
end of that, the Sigrists arent going any
further up the social ladder than what I
do so tant pis as the french say.
